This guitar was painted with Encaustic paint. The Tidewater Arts Outreach has a fundraiser each year where artists decorate a musical instrument. The guitar always fascinated me and my father played a Martin guitar, he could pick up tunes just by listening. I am also an admirer of the Spanish Flamingo dance, using the rose and the lace to represent that. The great Spanish guitarist Andres Segovia had a beautiful quote that resonated with me and influenced the Encaustic Painting on this Instrument of Art. The quotation is:

“Lean your body forward slightly to support the guitar against your chest, for the poetry of the music should resound in your heart”.

The rose being a symbol of love and affairs of the heart seemed to be a perfect fit!

The 2017 Tidewater Arts Outreach fundraiser Instruments of Art will feature my calligraphed Blues Guitar.
I used acrylic paints to write the words of some of my favorite Blues songs and list the names of many Blues artists.
